DiM Driving Simulators

DiM Driving Simulators

DiM Addresses Issues Presented by the V-Model in the Vehicle Development Process

The Driver-in-Motion® "DiM" driving simulator is based on an incredibly responsive platform that can recreate a balanced range of real-world scenarios, with smooth movement in low-frequency ranges and overwhelming performance in high-frequency ranges despite its moderate build size. It offers users the ability to evaluate a vehicle for ride comfort and other driving characteristics and can be merged with assessment processes for Advanced Driver Assistance and Autonomous Driving Systems (AD/ADAS) to accelerate the Model-Base Design (MBD) process.

For most vehicles, the process from original design to prototype can take multiple years. Time and costs only increase once a prototype has been produced, as the development team must then fine-tune individual components, sometimes starting over from scratch during the testing phase.

This is where the DiM series shines. Its digital twin technology helps conserve resources and shortens the testing phase, making it a staple MBD tool for numerous automobile manufacturers. By integrating DiM technology with physical counterparts in ADAS systems, users can safely immerse themselves in how the model handles and evaluate the subsequent results, serving as a valuable tool for streamlining ADAS development.

DiM Overview

The DiM driving simulator digitizes information based on automated driving (AD) systems or drivers who pilot the DiM system and records information about driving characteristics, handling, and acceleration/deceleration data from real-world driving scenarios or test courses. It is then able to generate a virtual model of the car in real-time. The vehicle's behavior is translated into haptic responses on the DiM platform via motion cueing algorithms, giving the driver an immersive driving experience. The DiM series marks the culmination of Saginomiya's digital twin technology, the next stage in evolution for the vehicle development process.

DiM Features

  • 01Highly Responsive Motion Platform

DiM is an incredibly unique platform experience, offering extensive and smooth motion capabilities due to its hexapod table and tripod combined system. "Responsiveness" is the very lifeblood of the simulator world, and our actuators rely on finely tuned electric servos designed specifically to increase the system's response rate. Whether our DiM 150 model or DiM 300, any entry in the DiM series recreates the ultimate immersive driving experience.

  • 02Open System

DiM is an incredibly flexible system that can be combined with various software and hardware applications to meet the user's specific goals and development process. Please reach out to us to discuss potential options for untested software or hardware, as we may be able to form a cooperative alliance to verify functionality and perform commissioned testing.

DiM Use-Case Scenarios

The DiM system is constantly expanding to new audiences and applications, offering insight into automated driving technologies and advanced driver assistance systems (AD/ADAS), full-sensory assessments for driving and dynamic performance, cockpit design, and the ever-transforming specifications of electric vehicle development.
DiM's digital twin technology can play a key role at any phase in vehicle development, from first concept to completed prototype. This technology is predicated on the idea that tests and assessments can be carried out in the digital realm by anyone at any time, repeatedly and safely. The DiM system can adapt to diverse testing scenarios and help our customers identify and solve issues as they arise.

Evaluations for Steering Stability/Straight Running Stability

Evaluate driving performance based on model vehicle's response to driver input

Customer Testimonials

  • Very responsive!
  • I was able to make a decision about vehicle models thanks to being able to see fractional differences in their characteristics.
  • Not exactly the same as driving a car, but it felt incredibly close to the real thing.
  • We were able to put together various statistics by using the increased steering and handling data sets.

Ride Comfort Analysis

Evaluate vehicle behavior primarily in response to road surfaces using analysis of waveforms from real vehicles and digital models

Customer Testimonials

  • The driving experience was incredibly balanced, accurately reproducing what it feels like to drive a real car but also showing you the differences.
  • Brings out things you can't pick up in a real vehicle.
  • Model accuracy should be raised.

The DiM Series

The DiM series began in 2012 with the release of the DiM 150. Since then, we have continued to expand our lineup to accommodate different objectives and usage scenarios. Our latest model, the DiM 300, offers an expansive range of motion facilitated by its 3-meter diameter tripod system, which is easily able to replicate dynamic motion maneuvers such as pylon slaloms and double lane changes. Our foundational hexapod system is a common feature between models, allowing customers to start with our basic DiM 50 unit and expand testing capabilities by adding tripods and plates in the future, unlocking the configuration's extensive range.

Product Reputation

The DiM Series is the favored choice among automakers, auto parts makers, and research institutes the world over as an innovative tool with diverse applications in the vehicle development process.
